Challenger Rainwater Collection

One of BFRC’s educational outreach program goals is to work with local sustainable practice agrarian interests on design and installation of “off-grid” rainwater collection systems.
We limit our installations to locally available materials and design assemblies which can be easily duplicated by anyone interested in creating similar gravity water flow distribution systems.
Cost of water storage without piping: $0.47 per stored gallon. A planned 20 foot high standpipe capable of storing 2000 gallons will be built at our BFRC Community Garden which will produce and average of 6psi water pressure completely independent of utility provided electrical services. It will include a permanently accessible top cap platform accommodating a modest PV panel and powered pump designed to move small water flows into the standpipe whenever the sun is shinning.

Such “off grid” gravity systems are fundamentally important to our “Bio Restoration Preserve” demonstration project area located near this photograph of our 700 gallon standpipe installation.
